One of my favorite things ever has always been surfing. Before I got the chance to try it myself I was always captivated by videos and pictures of professional surfers riding insanely huge waves. Unfortunately, Texas is one of the worst places for surfing. (Even though we have a coast.) So I think growing up in this state fueled my curiosity and desire to one day be able to participate in the sport.
One summer I got the chance to go visit my uncle down in Panamá. While I was there, I stumbled across the amazing town of Santa Catalina. Santa Catalina can best be described as a sleepy little surfing and fishing village. With a population of literally about 300, you totally feel like you’re in a tropical paradise. Everyone is super friendly and laid-back. Santa Catalina is where I fell in love with surfing. That trip ended up turning into a yearly tradition for my dad and I. In total I have been to the country of Panamá eight times now.

If you live in a place that is not good for surfing, please don’t let it discourage you from trying the sport! Even though Texas provides very limited surfing opportunities, I still make it happen whenever I can. If you have kept up with the rest of my blog, you probably know that I love to travel as well. This makes surfing even more perfect for me because some of the best places in the world to surf also happen to be some of the most beautiful. I still have so many places on my list that I would love to see and explore one day. Next on my list to see is Colombia. I was supposed to be headed down there this summer, but unfortunately my trip had to be canceled due to COVID… I discussed this in my YouTube video, which you can check out here: https://youtu.be/yKuUWI8F-Ec
Surfing is an amazing sport that everyone should try at least once! There is nothing that feels more incredible than racing down the face of a huge wave with the wind in your face.
